Description
The Scottish Rural Network (SRN) supports and encourages rural development by building the capacity and capabilities of rural and island communities and stakeholders and by sharing information, ideas, good practice, and funding opportunities.
Purpose
Scottish Rural Network (SRN) works with rural and island stakeholders, communities, delivery organisations, and a range of Scottish Government policy areas to strengthen Scotland’s rural and island communities and to support and empower them to become sustainable, resilient, and vibrant places to live, work and study.
It encourages rural development by sharing information and good practice, organising events and signposting funding opportunities to build the capacity and capability of rural and island communities and stakeholders and enabling them to contribute to policy matters that affect them.

Baseline payment information (2025):
Budget circa £870,000 (note – this figure is inclusive of funding for Scottish Rural Action and the National Rural Mental Health Forum, which for previous years prior to 2026/27 has been included within the Rural Cohesion budget line)
No. of recipients The SRN provides limited funding to a small number of trusted delivery partners each financial year to support development and delivery of specific thematic work strands in order help it to meet its strategic objectives(fewer than 10 grantees).
