In 2025 a consultation was held, Voices in Justice - a Consultation on parole reform in Scotland. It asked victims, people in custody, justice professionals, and the wider public for their views on the parole system. This document is the summary of those response in easy read format.

Asking people about changing the parole system
We spoke to 219 people and 23 organisations about the parole system.
Parole is the process where the Parole Board decide if a person is ready to leave prison.
A person in custody is someone who is in prison. They may be released on licence conditions by the Parole Board.
The Parole Board are the group of people who make decisions about a person in custody.
The Scottish Government asked people about changing the parole process in 2025. The answers were looked over by people who do not work for the government.
