Voices in Justice: Parole Reform in Scotland: Consultation Analysis - easy read version

In 2025 a consultation was held, Voices in Justice - a Consultation on parole reform in Scotland. It asked victims, people in custody, justice professionals, and the wider public for their views on the parole system. This document is the summary of those response in easy read format.


Victims and the parole process

A lot of victims and victim support organisations wanted more rights for victims during parole hearings.

Victims and their supporters wanted victims to be able to watch parole hearings.

Victims wanted to be able to speak to the Parole Board before a parole hearing.

Prisoners and ex-prisoners did not want to give victims more parole hearing rights. They thought this could affect the Parole Board’s choices.

They thought it could affect the safety and privacy of people in custody and their families.
