Easy read version for the new National Islands Plan. Under an overarching population retention and attraction objective, it provides a programme of actions to address challenges and opportunities facing Scotland's islands.
Culture and Empowering Communities
We will work with local communities to protect, celebrate, and promote their culture.
We will work with councils and communities to make sure island voices are heard in decisions. We will support services to meet local needs.
We will provide training on the planning system so communities can improve their futures.
We will invest in and work with young islanders to protect island heritage and culture.
We will support Gaelic and local languages like Orcadian and Shetlandic, as well as British Sign Language. We will recognise their cultural and economic value.
