Easy read version for the new National Islands Plan. Under an overarching population retention and attraction objective, it provides a programme of actions to address challenges and opportunities facing Scotland's islands.

Economy, Education and Skills

We will help people to enter the crofting and farming sector. We also want to have better land arrangements and support food production.

We will grow our marine economy in a way that is good for the planet and brings benefits the local people. Marine economy means activities such as fishing and fish farming.

We will offer training to island communities to help with tourism so it is good for the islanders and the visitors.

We will work with investors to boost investment in areas that are important for locals and improve services.

We will look into what causes issues in accessing affordable, high quality childcare on islands.

We will support teachers who want to work on islands, and encourage more university students to move or stay on the islands. We will also make sure people get training that matches local job needs.
