National Islands Plan 2026: easy read
Easy read version for the new National Islands Plan. Under an overarching population retention and attraction objective, it provides a programme of actions to address challenges and opportunities facing Scotland's islands.
Climate, Nature and Energy
Our islands are at risk of climate and nature crisis. They are home to different plant and animal species. Climate and nature crisis means warming planet destroying the natural world around us.
Islands are taking opportunities to benefit from renewable energy. This means using sources of energy that are not harmful to the environment like solar, wind and wave power.
The plan will help island communities with climate change by protecting nature and restoring peatlands. We will support local action, involve young people, and help island communities prepare for climate threats.
Support recycling and reuse projects that fit island needs.
