National Islands Plan 2026: easy read
Easy read version for the new National Islands Plan. Under an overarching population retention and attraction objective, it provides a programme of actions to address challenges and opportunities facing Scotland's islands.

Good transport and access to digital resources are important to island communities. They help improve island economies and social opportunities.
Digital resources mean things like internet, and mobile phones.
The plan wants to improve the transport system by:
- Making ferry services better. Including local communities in decisions about how services should be run. Making ferries accessible and cheaper for young islanders.
- Helping islands to develop plans for transport infrastructure such as tunnels, causeways and bridges, if they want to.
- Supporting projects that improve public, active and sustainable transport. Sustainable transport means low pollution transport such as electric cars, or cycling.
The Plan will improve internet and mobile phone signal. It will help businesses and islanders who want to learn new digital skills.
