Equality duty - mainstreaming report 2023-2025: summary - easy read

Provides an update on the progress we are making to mainstream the equality duty as an employer and decision-maker. It also provides reflection on our progress towards achieving our equality outcomes for the 2021 to 2025 reporting period.

Our Mainstreaming Approach

Our plan for mainstreaming covers these key areas:

  • Strong leadership
  • Being more open about what we do
  • Get more facts and involve people with lived experience
  • Make better rules
  • Get better at what we do

We have also developed a range of training to help staff understand mainstreaming. This will help them to make it part of all the work they do.

Other key mainstreaming highlights include:

  • The first-ever Equality and Human Rights Development Week in February 2025. This was attended by staff across government. It gave learning sessions on equality mainstreaming.
  • Inclusive Culture Training for all Scottish Government staff was started in 2023. This helps staff understand diversity and inclusion.
  • A Diversity and Inclusion Curriculum for schools. This featured over 100 learning resources covering topics like anti-racism, disability, and letting everyone have a say.
