Table 23: Local authority and partnership pre-school education registrations by local authority, January 2010

Notes:

Centres were asked whether they provide pre-school education "following the Scottish 3-18 Curriculum for Excellence". Those that said yes were asked whether this was "as a local authority managed school or centre", "as a partner provider offering places funded by the local authority" or "neither".

Children are counted once for each centre they are registered with.

96 centres did not provide information on the number of children registered. Information from 2009 has been carried forward to 2010.

All figures are rounded to the nearest 10 to express the uncertainty inherent in these estimates. For this reason, totals may not exactly equal the sum of their parts.

The number eligible for ante-pre-school is smaller than the number eligible for pre-school as chidren whose 3 ^rd birthday fell between 1 ^st Jan the Census will be included in the "under 3" category as ante-pre-school starts the term after a child's 3 ^rd birthday.

Centres were asked only for pre-school registrations for places funded by the local authority.

Local authority percentage estimates are based on the local authority in which each centre is located, and estimates of the number of children in each local authority eligible for pre-school education. See Appendix 1 for population estimates.

As children may cross local authority boundaries to attend pre-school education or attend more than one centre, and as population figures are estimates the above percentages should be treated as estimates and interpreted with caution.
