Notes:

Childminder figures in this table are outwith the scope of National Statistics. The figures, except for the totals, are taken from the Care Commission's December 2008 and December 2009 Annual Returns, to which there was a degree of non-response. The data have been weighted up to the total number of active and inactive childminders registered with the Care Commission (as at January 2009 and January 2010 respectively). In addition, previously submitted values of gender, age and ethnicity have been used to help improve these estimates where there has been non-response. See Appendix 2 for details of the weighting used.

Numbers are rounded to the nearest 10 and percentages to the nearest whole percent to express the uncertainty inherent in these figures. For this reason, totals may not exactly equal the sum of their parts.

Figures for January 2009 have been revised.
