Statistics on organic land use, crop areas, livestock and the number of organic operators.

First published: 14 August 2025.

Organic operators

In 2024, there were 530 organic operators registered in Scotland, an increase of 1.7% from 2023, but down 6.9% since 2018. An organic producer is an operator involved in the production of organic food (for example a farm) while an organic processor is only involved in the processing of the food (for example an abattoir). Of the 530 organic operators, 389 (74%) were organic producers and 126 (24%) were organic processors. A further 15 (3%) were registered as both producers and processors.
