National Transitions to Adulthood - strategy for young disabled people: supplementary report - easy read

Easy read version of the supplementary report to the Transitions Strategy. It sets out actions and commitments across key policy areas, showing how work to improve transitions for young disabled people and the Transitions Strategy are delivered.

Safeguarding – keeping people safe from harm

Young disabled people who may be at risk of harm and who are moving into adulthood must get:

  • the right support
  • at the right time
  • from the right people
  • for as long as they need it

Good safeguarding needs ways of working by all partner organisations that:

  • link the gaps between child and adult systems
  • are holistic – this means they look at everything the person needs
  • are flexible – this means they can change when needed

What we will do next

  • the National Public Protection Leadership Group will:
    • look at what is missing when people move between services
  • make recommendations to make ways to get safeguarding services better
  • work with the National Child Protection Data Group and the Centre for Excellence for Children's Care and Protection to have better ways to identify a young disabled person in child protection data
  • add to the work of the National Child Protection Disabled Children’s Network so there are better safeguarding policies and ways of working during transitions
