Of those who answered Question 32, 79% agreed with all the proposals for Section 15 of Part 1 of the current guide (as set out in Annex O of the consultation paper) and 8% agreed with some but not all. No respondents disagreed with the proposals. This was the highest level of agreement with all proposals recorded across the consultation. Individuals were less likely to agree with the proposals than organisations (69% compared with 81%).
Support for the proposals
A quarter of all respondents commented in response to Question 32. The most common theme in responses was support for the proposals, with respondents broadly content with the existing guidance and in agreement with the decision not to make any key updates.
Other themes
Some respondents made comments about flooring:
- a few suggested that the description in 15.2.2 in relation to slip-resistant finishes in dwellings specifically for older and disabled people should be updated, with one requesting the removal of references to ‘cork or matting alongside carpet’ and another suggesting the section should be reworded ‘to emphasise a positive approach to use modern appropriate floor coverings’
- one advised that minimum slip resistant grading of flooring needs to be specified in line with RS values [
- one requested specification of flooring that aligns with Safer by Design, that is, has a slip test certificate in potentially wet internal areas, UK Pendulum test value (PTV) of 27+ in wet conditions or DIN 51130 R10 rating for all
There was little consensus among the remaining comments. One respondent called for greater consideration of the requirements of those with dementia in this section of the guide. Another felt that the term ‘dementia’ should be replaced with ‘cognitive and perceptual impairment’ in the proposed update to clause 15.2.3.
