Total income from farming (TIFF) is the official measure of the profit gained by the agricultural industry in Scotland. It provides a breakdown of the value of farm production, support payments and costs. An Accredited Official Statistics publication for Scotland.

Total support payments decreases in real terms
Total support payments to farming is estimated at £597 million in 2024. Estimates of support payments in total income from farming are calendar year estimates.
Total support payments to farming decreased by 5% in 2024 in real terms. This decrease was mostly driven by the fixed rate of the Basic Payment Scheme, which did not increase with inflation.
Most support payments are made through the Basic Payment Scheme. This is a support payment made for farming activity. Total payments from the Basic Payment scheme are estimated at £277 million in 2024. Estimates of the Basic Payment Scheme include convergence payments in 2020 and 2021. The total value of convergence payments made across 2020 and 2021 is around £158 million.

Other support payments are included in Table 4, including ‘Greening’ which supports environmental sustainability and the ‘Less Favoured Area Support Scheme (LFASS)’ which is a support payment paid to those farming in upland and remote areas where there are natural disadvantages.
