Agriculture contributes £2.2 billion to the economy

The Gross Value Added (GVA) from agriculture is estimated to be £2.2 billion in 2024. GVA increases in recent years is mostly attributed to high prices driving increasingly high profit margins across 2020 to 2022, despite increasing costs. This figure is before support payments, and costs such as labour, rent, taxes and interest are taken into account. It does not take into account the increases the industry has experienced in these other costs.

Estimates for 2024, particularly cost estimates, are based on early indications for some figures and rely on projecting figures forward from the previous year. They will be revised next year when more data become available. These estimates may change but are an early indication for calculating Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the sector.
