Characteristics of Households in Receipt of Awards

Since the scheme began in April 2013, 491,630 unique households received at least one award from the Scottish Welfare Fund with the majority of these households receiving a Crisis Grant (367,075) than a Community Care Grant (271,200) (Table 38, Chart 13).

Of the 491,630 unique households that have received at least one award, over half (53%) were single person households, and 22% single parent households. In comparison, the 2019 household estimates for Scotland indicate that only 37% households are single people, and 6% households are single parent families.

In total, since the scheme began, more than a third (35%) of households receiving awards have contained children (Table 38b). Of the total £355.6 million that has been awarded, £161.2 million has been awarded to households containing children.
