Results from the Scottish Agricultural Census: June 2026

Final results from the 2026 June Agricultural Census on land use, crop areas, livestock and the people working on agricultural holdings. Modular results on cattle housing, technology, feed supplements, and peatlands also included.


Potato area remains above average despite decrease in latest year

The planted potato area decreased by 4.5% in 2026 to 29,000 hectares. The planted potato area remained 1.8% above the five-year average of 28,500 hectares.

The seed potato area was 12,300 hectares, down 7.8% from 2025 and 1.0% below the five-year average. The ware potato area was 16,700 hectares, 1.9% lower than in 2025 and 3.9% above the five-year average.
