Appendix 2: SHeS 2016-2019 – Self-assessed general health

A: Mental wellbeing by age and self-assessed general health
Mental wellbeing was highest in the 'Good or very good' health group with mean WEMWBS scores of 54.1 for 65-69 year olds, 53.6 for 70-74 year olds and 52.6 for 75+. For those in the 'fair to very bad' group the figures were 47.3, 47.2 and 47.1 respectively.
B: Possible psychiatric disorder by age and self-assessed general health
For those in the 'good or very good' health group, 4% in the 65-69 year old group showed symptoms of possible psychiatric disorder, 5% in the 70-74 year olds and 6% in 75+. For  those in the 'good or very good' health group, the percentages were 23%, 22% and 23% respectively.
C: 2 or more anxiety symptoms by age and self-assessed general health
For those in the 'Good or very good' group, 6% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more anxiety symptoms, 5% of 70-74 year olds and 3% of those 75+. The figures for  those in the 'fair to very bad' group were 11%, 15% and 9% respectively.
D: 2 or more depression symptoms by age and self-assessed general health
For those in the 'good to very good' group, 4% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more depression symptoms, 3% of 70-74 year olds and 4% of those 75+. The figures for those in the 'fair to very bad' group were 17%, 16% and 13% respectively.
