Appendix 1: SHeS 2016-2019 – Sex

A: Mental wellbeing by age and sex
Mental wellbeing was highest in the 65-69 year old group with mean WEMWBS scores of 51.7 for Male and 51.8 for Female. For 70-74 years olds, the figures were 51.2 for Male and 51.1 for Female and fot the 75+ plus group they were 50.2 for Male and 50.1 for Female.
B: Possible psychiatric disorder by age and sex
For males, 8% in the 65-69 year old group showed symptoms of possible psychiatric disorder, 9& in the 70-74 year olds and 11% in 75+. For females the percentages were 14%, 13% and 15% respectively.
C: 2 or more anxiety symptoms by age and sex.
For males, 4% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more anxiety symptoms, 8% of 70-74 year olds and 4% of those 75+. The figures for females were 11%, 10% and 8% respectively.
D: 2 or more depression symptoms by age and sex
For males, 4% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more depression symptoms, 9% of 70-74 year olds and 6% of those 75+. The figures for females were 8%, 7% and 10% respectively.
