Appendix 6: SHeS 2016-2019 – Caring responsibilities

A: Mental wellbeing by age and caring responsibilities
Mean WEMWBS scores in the 'Caring' group were 52.2 for 65-69 year olds, 51.9 for 70-74 year olds and 50.8 for 75+. For those in the 'Non-carers' group the figures were 51.7, 51.1 and 50.1 respectively.
B: Possible psychiatric disorder by age and caring responsibilities
For those in the 'Caring' group, 11% in the 65-69 year old group showed symptoms of possible psychiatric disorder, 13% in the 70-74 year olds and 13% in 75+. For  those in the 'non-carers' group, the percentages were 11%, 11% and 13% respectively.
C: 2 or more anxiety symptoms by age and caring responsibilities
For those in the 'Carers' group, 14% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more anxiety symptoms, 13% of 70-74 year olds and 13% of those 75+. The figures for  those in the 'non-carers' group were 6%, 8% and 5% respectively.
D: 2 or more depression symptoms by age and caring responsibilities
For those in the 'carers' group, 6% of 65-69 year olds displayed 2 or more depression symptoms, 9% of 70-74 year olds and 15% of those 75+. The figures for those in the 'fair to very bad' group were 9%, 8% and 8% respectively.
