Repayment
Repayment means paying back. If someone gets money or property at the end of their case, it may be fair to pay back some or all the legal aid costs. This helps make sure public money is used well.
The repayment rules just now depend on the type of legal aid a person gets. This can make the system unfair and difficult to understand. This might stop people trying to find help.
The new plan makes rules clear and fair. We will look after public money and improve access to justice.
