Cost of legal aid
Legal aid in Scotland:
- can be used for any matter of Scottish law
- costs a lot.
The cost is going up. The cost can go up when:
- more people need help
- cases are more difficult
- legal aid covers more types of help.
Changes to legal aid must:
- help people access justice
- make sure it can be paid for in the future.
This means public money must be used well for the people who need it most.
