Global Solidarity Fund: equality impact assessment results

This report summarises the results of the Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) conducted to inform the design of the Global Solidarity Fund.

6. Disability

Outcome 1 is expected to provide opportunities to advance equality of opportunity by supporting CSOs to explore data collection in relation to disability, create and train staff on a disability inclusion policy (either relating to culture within their organisation and/or their workstreams), participating in sharing best practice with CSO networks in relation to disability inclusion and/or build capacity for public communications and ensuring communication material and publications are accessible. Outcome 1 may also focus on ensuring that disability inclusion is considered as part of organisational capacity building (internally and in project delivery) in Scotland and Partner Countries.

Outcome 2 is expected to have broad positive impacts as communications and engagement activity funded under this outcome (be it online or in-person) should embed accessibility to remove barriers to engagement, as well as represent those individuals with a disability in a way that is authentic and ethical, ideally adopting a participatory approach to storytelling that challenges harmful stereotypes. Outcome 2 may also provide opportunities to foster good relations between disabled and non-disabled groups through participation at events organised to convene local communities around global citizenship themes - though the specific projects to be funded have yet to be identified.

Outcome 3 is expected to have a broad positive impact as the organisational capacity building activity under this outcome will need to consider the barriers to participation faced by people with disabilities in Partner Countries as part of efforts to build organisational capacity. Safeguarding will also be a vital consideration to ensure marginalised communities are protected from abuse of power dynamics. Outcome 3 may also focus on ensuring that disability inclusion is considered as part of organisational capacity building (internally and in project delivery) in Scotland and Partner Countries.
