Global Solidarity Fund: equality impact assessment results

This report summarises the results of the Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) conducted to inform the design of the Global Solidarity Fund.

5. Age

Outcome 1 is expected to have a positive impact on older people due to the older workforce across the third sector, including volunteers. This is due to the focus on capacity building which is likely to support skills development and learning. Outcome 1 supports small CSOs to adopt good governance practices including recruitment and retention of staff including volunteers, communications and engagement, decision making etc – all of which are improved through taking an inclusive approach which includes improving age diversity.

Outcome 2 is expected to have broad positive impacts across age demographics with no target age groups specified (but excluding primary school age children) – but projects to be funded have yet to be identified. Outcome 2 may also provide opportunities to foster good relations between age groups through participation at events organised to convene local communities around global citizenship themes - though the specific projects to be funded have yet to be identified.

Outcome 3 is expected to have broad positive impacts across age demographics but is not targeted. More information is required on the types of activities that will be funded, though it is expected this will likely include similar organisational capacity building type activity as outcome 1 (but specific to the Global South context). Outcome 3 may also have indirect positive impact as small Scottish CSOs seeking to shift power will likely be transferring that power to younger colleagues and communities in Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda, given the age profiles of those nations. The collaborative effort of partners in the Global North and South provides an opportunity to foster good relations between age groups – though the specific projects have yet to be identified.
