Global Solidarity Fund: equality impact assessment results

This report summarises the results of the Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) conducted to inform the design of the Global Solidarity Fund.

7. Sex

Outcome 1 may provide opportunities to advance equality of opportunity by supporting CSOs to explore data collection in relation to gender, create and train staff on a gender equality policy (either relating to culture within their organisation and/or their projects in Parter Countries), participating in sharing best practice with CSO networks in relation to gender equality and/or build capacity for public communications, and ensuring communication material and publications are accessible and gender sensitive. Outcome 1 may also have a broad positive impact due to the focus on ensuring that gender equality and power dynamics are considered as part of organisational capacity building (internally and in project delivery) in Scotland and Partner Countries.

Outcome 2 may have a broad positive impact as communications and engagement activity funded under this outcome (be it online or in-person) should embed gender awareness to remove barriers to engagement as well as represent people of different genders in a way that is authentic and ethical, ideally adopting a participatory approach to storytelling that challenges harmful stereotypes. Outcome 2 may also provide opportunities to foster good relations between people of different genders through participation at events organised to convene local communities around global citizenship themes - though the specific projects to be funded have yet to be identified.

Outcome 3 may have a broad positive impact as the organisational capacity building activity under this outcome will need to consider the barriers to participation faced by people of different genders in Partner Countries and the different social capital of men and women in the Global South. Safeguarding will also be a vital consideration to ensure marginalised communities are protected from abuse of power dynamics.

Outcome 3 may also have a broad positive impact due to focus on ensuring that gender equality and power dynamics are considered as part of organisational capacity building (internally and in project delivery) in Scotland and Partner Countries.
