What we do

The Culture and External Affairs Directorate leads the Scottish Government’s work supporting Ministers on the culture sector and on international issues. Core aims include:

• supporting the growth of Scotland’s economy
• enhancing Scotland’s reputation internationally and our international connections
• promote Scotland’s ambitions to be a good global citizen
• promoting Scotland’s place and interests in Europe
• supporting our vibrant culture sector and promoting the excellence of Scottish culture worldwide

• celebrate the excellence of Scottish culture worldwide

We are responsible for advising Ministers on:

• culture and historic environment
• European and international relations
• population and migration
• international development and climate change
