Equality and human rights mainstreaming action plan: easy read
Brings together 61 equality and human rights mainstreaming actions from across the Scottish Government in one accessible plan, supporting equality, diversity and inclusion in policy and practice.
What is in the Mainstreaming Action Plan?
The Mainstreaming Action Plan covers 4 areas:
1. The action must support one or more key areas of the Mainstreaming Strategy:
- Strong leadership
- Being open about what we do
- Make better rules
- Get more facts and involve people with lived experience
- Get better at what we do
2. The action must involve different areas of government.
The Strategy explains that mainstreaming equality and human rights is based on several principles:
- Use a human rights approach that puts people and their rights at the centre of our work.
- Understand that people can be treated unfairly in more than one way and that can mean more inequality.
- Do not treat all groups the same. Different groups face different problems.
3. The action must be delivered by the Scottish Government.
This means that Government has the powers to make meaningful changes and show leadership.
4. The action must have a set timetable and a clear goal that can be measured.
This makes sure that the Action Plan includes real actions that will happen on time and make things measurably better.
