We asked you about conversion practices – this is what you told us Easy Read Version
An easy read version of the responses to the Scottish Government's consultation on ending conversion practices.
Who answered the consultation?
In this document we call the people or groups who answered the consultation respondents.
The consultation was answered by more than 5000 people, including 162 groups or organisations.
Around half of all responses from organisations were from faith or belief organisations or groups.
There were slightly more people who did not support the proposals.
A lot of respondents seem to have used guidance and information from organisations to help them answer.
But some of this guidance did not explain proposals correctly.
Organisations who mostly supported the proposals included:
- LGBTQI+ groups
- medical, psychology or counselling groups or organisations
- social work, legal or community safety bodies
Many people who agreed with the proposals thought that conversion practices:
- are harmful and cruel
- often target and take advantage of people who are already vulnerable and confused
- They thought the proposals treat everyone fairly.
Organisations who did not support the proposals included:
- LGB groups
- faith or belief bodies or groups
- women’s groups
- campaign groups
Many people who did not agree with the proposals were worried about:
- how it could change things for the teachings and activities of faith organisations or groups
- how it could change things for parents and carers
- the inclusion of gender identity
