We asked you about conversion practices – this is what you told us Easy Read Version
An easy read version of the responses to the Scottish Government's consultation on ending conversion practices.
What is this document about?
The Scottish Government had a consultation about Ending Conversion Practices in Scotland.
Consultation means asking what you think about something and listening to what you have to say.
The consultation included proposals to explain what the law could look like.
Proposals are suggestions about what should happen next.
The Scottish Government proposed 3 ways to provide protection from conversion practices through:
- criminal offences
- a new statutory aggravation
- or a civil protection order
Criminal offences are things that are illegal – they are crimes.
A statutory aggravation means when a criminal is convicted of a crime an aggravation – like more time in prison - can be added to their sentence.
Civil measures are ways to solve disagreements or disputes that are not crimes.
A civil protection order is a way to keep someone safe and stop harm before it happens.
The consultation was from 9 January until 2 April 2024.
There were 38 questions in the consultation.
