Constraints to Innovation

Figure 12: Of factors constraining innovation activities, ‘Issues related to COVID-19 pandemic’ was ranked as of ‘high importance’ by the largest proportion of Scottish broader innovators (38.1%). This was followed by ‘Excessive perceived economic risks’ (19.6%). These were also the top constraining factors for the UK as a whole.

In Scotland and the UK, ‘Issues related to COVID-19 pandemic’ were cited as of high importance by the highest proportion of businesses of all sizes (Table 19).
