Restitution Fund: guidance

The power to make a restitution order came into force on 10 February 2021. These orders are a financial penalty available to courts to those convicted of assault on police, under section 90 of the Police and Fire Reform Act 2012. The funding received will provide support services for victims.

3. What can the Restitution Fund be used for?

3.1 The Fund will be used to support both physical and mental health and wellbeing. Support services can be any type of service or treatment which is intended to benefit the physical or mental health or wellbeing of the victim. This can extend to the purchase of equipment or adjustments if appropriate. The main limitation is that the Restitution Fund cannot be used to provide a direct payment to victims.
