Restitution Fund: guidance
The power to make a restitution order came into force on 10 February 2021. These orders are a financial penalty available to courts to those convicted of assault on police, under section 90 of the Police and Fire Reform Act 2012. The funding received will provide support services for victims.
2. Who can the Restitution Fund be used to help?
2.1 The Restitution Fund can be used to provide support services to victims of police assault, as mentioned in section 90(1) of the 2012 Act. This includes those acting in the capacity of a constable, member of police staff, member of other relevant police force acting in Scotland, member of a joint investigation team, or other persons who were assisting those noted above. Retired police officers and retired police staff are also eligible to apply.
