Section 1: New Registered Groups

Between January and April 2025, the SSSC held a public consultation on the proposed registration of three new groups of workers. These were:

  • Adult day care services – support worker, practitioner and supervisors
  • Offender accommodation service – practitioner, supervisors and managers
  • Social work assistants

The SSSC’s consultation process included a variety of online focus groups, social media surveys aimed at members of the public and formal public consultation, each with healthy engagement. Consultation respondents were asked their views on whether these groups should be registered with the SSSC, and whether they agreed with the proposed role descriptions, qualification requirements, registration fees and continuous professional learning requirements.

Responses to the consultation showed strong support for the expansion of the Register with between 80%-94% of respondents agreeing that the SSSC should register each of the proposed groups.
