The Scottish Social Services Council

The Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC) is a Non-Departmental Public Body, set up under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001. They are the independent regulator of the social services workforce in Scotland, with most roles across social work, social care and children and young people’s services required to register with them in order to work. With a register currently holding approximately 173,000 individuals across all service types, the SSSC’s role is to protect the public by registering social service workers, setting standards for practice, conduct, training and education. If an individual falls below these standards the SSSC can investigate and take direct action through the Fitness to Practise process; imposing sanctions or even removing an individual from the Register (and therefore the workforce) where required.
