National Transitions to Adulthood Strategy for Young Disabled People - Easy Read
The Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) are pleased to present the Easy Read version of Scotland’s first National Transitions to Adulthood Strategy for young disabled people.
Priority 5: Data Collection and Measurement
What this means

We will gather information to check how we are doing. And to keep making things better.
Why this is important
We need information to:

- better understand the number of young disabled people leaving school

- find out more about the experiences of young disabled people who are making the transition to adulthood
- make the right things better at a local and national level

- be able to report and check our progress.
What is already happening

The Scottish Government already wants data to be collected and used. They have written plans and guidance on this.

In 2022 it published guidance for public bodies on how to collect data on disability. This was so data could be collected in the same ways.

In 2023 the Equality Evidence Strategy was published. This set out how the Scottish Government was going to collect evidence on things like disability and age.
What else we will do

We will review the information we already collect on young disabled people. This will help us understand their experiences of transitions. It will help us see the gaps in the data and explore the best way to fill these.

We will look at how to make sure people better understand the importance of gathering information.
