Angus Fire Armour Ltd

DWI 56/4/45 Thermopipe

C.2 IN-SITU APPLIED PIPE COATINGS

In-situ applied lining products approved for use by the Authorities in the UK must be applied in accordance with strict operational requirements as documented in the Water Industry Information & Guidance Note IGN 4-02-02 http://www.wis-ign.org/downloads/IGN%204-02-02.pdf "Code of Practice: In-situ resin lining of water mains" and the Water Industry Specification WIS 4-02-01 http://www.wis-ign.org/downloads/WIS%204-02-01.pdf "Operational Requirements: In situ resin lining of water mains".

Thus from 1 April 2007 all water undertakers shall apply coatings in accordance with the Operational Requirement in order to comply with the relevant Regulations . The following conditions replaced the previous specific conditions:

  • All water undertakers and contractors must apply the coating in accordance with: WIS 4-02-01"In-situ resin lining of water mains" published by Water UK Standards Board.
  • Coatings must be applied by an approved contractor, listed for the purposes of coating water supply pipes in the Authorities' List of Approved Products (this publication), or, from December 2007, in any subsequent listings produced on behalf of Water UK.
  • The approved product must be manufactured and applied under the effective control of a BSEN ISO9000 Quality System and approved by a third party certification organisation.

UKAS is expected to be responsible, on behalf of Water UK, for Accreditation of Water UK Nominated Certifying Bodies and Nominated Training Certifiers. DWI Nominated Certifying Bodies and Training Providers have until 31 December 2007 to obtain the new accreditation.

The List of Approved Products no longer includes the list of the lining contractors who have been approved (under the previous DWI arrangement) by each of the appointed organisations and have achieved full third party certification.

The coatings listed in this section have been subject to review by DWI (including testing), on the basis of their proposed use with inert substrates such as metallic or cement based structures, and upon the detailed application and curing requirements set out in the manufacturer's Instructions for Use document. They have not been evaluated for any other aspect, such as fitness for purpose.
