Activity since last update
The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) commissioned report reviewing the UK Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 against Scottish legislation found some alignment through the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010 and their existing regulatory framework, which already reflects many Grenfell Inquiry principles. The SHR will continue to monitor developments and ensure its regulatory approach remains in line with best practice and evolving legislation.
Planned activity
The Grenfell disaster highlighted the need for skilled housing professionals. Research for the Chartered Institute of Housing in Scotland proposed adding a new Social Housing Charter outcome to strengthen oversight of professional development and improve transparency for tenants. This recommendation will be considered in the upcoming Charter review.
