Energy Statistics for Scotland - Q2 2026
Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q2 2026
Renewable electricity pipeline
As of the end of June 2026, there were 1,253 renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 99.4 GW in the planning pipeline in Scotland. Of these there were:
- 426 electricity storage projects with an estimated capacity of 43.9 GW;
- 768 renewable electricity generation projects with an estimated capacity of 51.6 GW; and
- 58 other renewable energy technologies projects with an estimated capacity of 3.8 GW.
The technology with the most estimated capacity in the pipeline is battery storage (33.1 GW), followed by offshore wind generation (30.1 GW) and onshore wind generation (17.7 GW; Figure 5).
The large increase in pipeline capacity this quarter is primarily due to the inclusion of 13.6 GW of offshore wind from 9 projects. As reported in the previous quarterly energy statistics publication, as of the end of March 2026, there were 1,236 renewable energy projects with an expected capacity of 85.4 GW (Energy Statistics for Scotland - Q1 2026 - gov.scot).
