Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q1 2026.
Renewable electricity pipeline
As of the end of March 2026, there were 1,236 renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 85.4 GW in the planning pipeline in Scotland. Of these there were:
- 426 electricity storage projects with an estimated capacity of 41.8 GW;
- 748 renewable electricity generation projects with an estimated capacity of 39.8 GW; and
- 62 other renewable energy technologies projects with an estimated capacity of 3.8 GW.
The technology with the most estimated pipeline capacity is battery storage (32.8 GW), followed by onshore wind generation (18.7 GW) and offshore wind generation (17.3 GW; Figure 4).
