Progress Towards Energy Targets

Overall Renewable Energy Target

One of the headline targets in Scotland's Energy Strategy is for the equivalent of 50% of the energy for Scotland's heat, transport and electricity use to come from renewable sources by 2030. This target presents Scotland’s renewable energy production as a percentage of Scotland’s energy consumption.

In 2024, Scotland generated the equivalent of 32.3% of total final energy consumption from renewable sources. This is a 2.8 percentage point increase compared to 2023 (Figure 6).

Energy productivity

Energy productivity presents the value generated by Scotland’s products and services for every unit of energy consumed. The target for 2030 is expressed as a 30% increase from the 2015 baseline.

In 2024, there has been a 16.2% increase in energy productivity from the 2015 baseline (Figure 7).
