Children in Residential Care Statistics
Statistics on children in residential care using data from Scotland's Census 2022.
Age and sex
On Census Day, 20 March 2022, an estimated 975 children were looked after in residential care settings. Of these children, 56% were male, compared to 51% of children living in households.

Most children living in residential care were aged 15 to 17 (60%), while over a third were aged 10 to 14. Children aged 0 to 9 only accounted for 3% of children in residential care.
