Transforming Roles paper 9 - allied health professions advanced practice: equality impact assessment
Guidance supporting fair, competency‑based pathways into allied health professions (AHP) advanced practice, improving consistency, equity, flexibility and person‑centred care across Scotland.
Gaps and limitations in evidence gathered and mitigations
Several limitations in the available data and evidence were identified during this EQIA:
- Limited Scottish-specific data: Data on advanced practice AHPs in Scotland is limited. To address this, data from NHS England was used, with caution applied when extrapolating to the Scottish context.
- Limited granularity by protected characteristic: Some workforce data, such as disability, sexual orientation and gender identity, are self-reported or aggregated, limiting the ability to fully understand representation across advanced practice AHPs.
- Intersectional data gaps: There is limited information on how multiple protected characteristics intersect, which limits detailed analysis of compounded disadvantage.
- Service user data limitations: Evidence on the impact of AHP advanced practice roles on diverse patient populations is limited.
