This plan covers the management of the Scottish Marine Region for the Shetland Isles. It guides and supports decision making for development and use of the sea, and represents the second tier of marine planning following on from the National plan.

The NAFC Marine Centre UHI merged with Shetland College and Train Shetland in August 2021 and became Shetland UHI.

The Shetland Islands Regional Marine Plan has been developed by the Shetland Islands Marine Planning Partnership (Shetland UHI and Shetland Islands Council) and has been guided by an advisory group.

The development of the Shetland Islands Regional Marine Plan has been supported by funding from the Marine Directorate of the Scottish Government and the Shetland Islands Council.
