Sheep and goat condensed guidance
In Scotland, sheep and goat identification and traceability are vital for disease prevention, control, eradication and the protection of public health. This condensed guidance is designed to be a handy companion to, and complement, the existing sheep and goat guidance already available.
Five-mile concession
The five-mile concession was introduced to reduce the reporting requirements for short-distance movements, for keepers who use nearby land which cannot be amalgamated, for example for seasonal grazing or short-term lets.
- Cannot be used for permanent farmed land
- APHA must be notified within 30 days
- 13-days standstill applies to any land operated by the business
- Sheep cannot mix with livestock from another holding – the concession is solely for fields over which the keeper has exclusive use
Five miles is equal to 8.04 km. Any temporary or seasonal land which has a boundary within 5 miles can be considered under this concession.
