Round 3 workshop – Information sheet
Why are we holding a workshop?
We are holding a workshop as Round 3 of the Kinloch Castle Delphi study. The aim of this study is to develop an understanding of the views of island residents, and to reach consensus on an agreed list of suitable conditions of sale for Kinloch Castle.
We have now carried out Rounds 1 and 2 of the study, and shared the results at each stage. We are arranging this workshop to give islanders an opportunity to speak to the researchers in person, hear from some of those involved and discuss any issues in more detail before we complete the study. We hope to bring the study to a successful conclusion to support progress on the future of the castle, and that as many islanders as possible will support this process.
Who will be at the workshop?
We will invite all adult residents of Rum to attend this in-person workshop. An independent facilitator will run the session, which will also be attended by a researcher from the Rural and Environment Science and Analytical Services (RESAS) division of the Scottish Government, who will present the research findings, and representatives from NatureScot and Historic Environment Scotland, whose role will be to share expertise, offer advice and answer any questions.
What about Rounds 1 and 2?
We have already carried out Rounds 1 and 2 of the study. During each round, we have asked islanders to complete an online questionnaire. We have shared a report on the findings with you, and will give a short presentation on the results during the workshop. We hope this process has helped you to understand the views of other residents in relation to your own, and are very grateful to all residents who have completed one or both questionnaires.
The results of both online questionnaires are anonymous, and will remain so. You will not be asked to share your responses to questions in Rounds 1 and 2 during the workshop, but we may cover the same topics and you are welcome to raise any further issues or questions.
Participation in this research is voluntary, and you do not have to attend the workshop. We appreciate that islanders lead busy lives, but we hope that many of you will attend the workshop to hear from others and take part in a discussion before we complete the study.
More information about the workshop is included on the next page.
What will the event involve?
During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to share your views, hear from others involved and take part in a final discussion.
We have posted a paper copy of this Information Pack to all island addresses, and will bring additional materials to the workshop, including pens and paper. Please let us know if you require any additional support in order to attend the workshop.
What will happen after the workshop?
We will include a summary of the workshop discussion in the final report, alongside the results of Rounds 1 and 2. The final report will be shared with islanders and independently peer reviewed before it is published on the Scottish Government website.
