Goods exports to the EU

In 2024 Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 8% to £7.2 billion since the previous year.

Over this period the greatest decreases were in Medicinal & pharmaceutical products (down 26%), Organic chemicals (down 50%) and Chemical materials & products (down 22%). Medicinal & pharmaceutical products accounted for 15% of the total decline in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease.

The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Fish and shellfish (up 15%), Telecomms & sound recording (up 16%) and Plastics in primary forms (up 11%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s goods exports to the EU have decreased by 18% since 2018.

The decline for Scotland over this period was driven by Apparel & clothing (down 84%), Professional & scientific instruments (down 58%) and Chemical materials & products (down 47%).
