Inflation Adjusted HMRC Regional Trade Statistics for Scotland Q3 2025

In the year ending September 2025 compared to the previous year Scotland’s goods imports increased by 3% to a value of £24.3 billion.
The increase was largely driven by imports of Telecomms & sound recording (up 73%), Apparel & clothing (up 29%) and Animal feed (up 53%). Telecomms & sound recording was the largest increase, and accounted for around a fifth of the overall increase.
There were decreases in Power generating machinery (down 23%), Manufactures of metal (down 43%) and General industrial machinery (down 28%).
EU imports decreased by 1% between the year ending September 2025 and the previous year, driven largely by imports of General industrial machinery (down 45%) and Power generating machinery (down 29%). Imports from non-EU countries increased by 6% over this period, which was driven by imports of animal feed (up 87%) and Apparel & clothing (up 34%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s imports have increased (up 2% in the year ending September 2025 since the corresponding period in 2018). EU imports decreased by 7% over this period, while non-EU imports increased by 9%.
