In the year ending September 2025 Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 2% to £9.1 billion since the previous year.
Over this period the greatest decreases were in exports Chemical materials & products (down 25%), Organic chemicals (down 40%), and Drink (down 4%). Chemical materials & products accounted for around a fifth of the total decline in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease.
The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Power generating machinery (up 23%), Telecomms & sound recording (up 28%) and Metalliferous ores & metal scrap (up 40%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s goods exports to the EU have decreased by 20% since the pre-pandemic period in 2018.
The decline for Scotland over this period was driven by Apparel & clothing (down 85%), Professional & scientific instruments (down 56%) and Chemical materials & products (down 52%).
