In the year ending September 2025, the value of Scotland’s international goods exports increased by 1% to a value of £24.1 billion.
The commodity category with the highest export value in the year ending September 2025 was Drink at £4.9 billion. This was followed by Power generating machinery at £4.2 billion, General industrial machinery at £1.8 billion, Fish and shellfish at £1.2 billion, and Professional & scientific instruments at £1.1 billion.
The increase in Scotland’s goods export value since the previous year was driven largely by a 61% increase in the exports of Specialised machinery, a 15% increase in exports of Electrical machinery & appliances and a 2% increase in Power generating machinery. The largest of these increases was the increase in Specialised machinery, which accounted for around around a quarter of the total increase.
Drink and Power generating machinery account for 38% of Scotland’s international goods exports. In the year ending September 2025 exports of Drink accounted for 20% and Power generating machinery accounted for 18% of Scotland’s export value.

Since the year ending September 2018 Scotland’s goods exports fell by 12%. This was driven by falls in Iron and steel (down 73%), Apparel & clothing (down 77%) and Rubber (down 82%) which had the most impactful declines.
