In the year ending March 2026, the value of Scotland’s international goods exports decreased by 3% to a value of £24.2 billion since the previous year.
The commodity category with the highest export value in the year ending March 2026 was Drink at £4.9 billion. This was followed by Power generating machinery at £4.6 billion, General industrial machinery at £1.7 billion, Fish and shellfish at £1.1 billion, and Professional & scientific instruments at £1 billion.
The decline in Scotland’s goods export value since the previous year was driven largely by a 37% drop in the exports of Specialised machinery, a 21% decrease in exports of Fish and shellfish and a 26% decrease in Manufactures of metal. The largest of these decreases was the decrease in Specialised machinery, which accounted for around a fifth of the total decline.
Drink and Power generating machinery account for 39% of Scotland’s international goods exports. In the year ending March 2026 exports of Drink accounted for 20% and Power generating machinery accounted for 19% of Scotland’s export value.

Since the year ending March 2019 Scotland’s goods exports fell by 17%. This was driven by falls in Office machinery (down 67%), Medicinal & pharmaceutical products (down 42%) and Iron and steel (down 64%) which had the most impactful declines.
